With fishing villages, pristine beaches, gorgeous natural parks, and intact architecture, it is a hidden gem of the country. Rent a villa and take in the beauty of the landscape from your own personal paradise, away from the hustle and bustle of big cities and hotels. Wondering what to do once you get to Narbonne? Just follow the path to the following landmarks:

VISIT THE SAINT JUST AND SANIT PASTEUR CATHEDRAL

Wherever you are in Narbonne, chances are that you can see the omnipresent cathedral. Though not much to look at from the outside, the inside’s beauty will surprise you. The cathedral was started in 1271, but was never fully finished because of political and monetary issues. It is tempting to say, however, that its unfinished structure is the reason that it is so charming. The church looks almost organic, like something in the midst of growth.

GET SOME SUN AT NARBONNE PLAGE

Not much needs to be said to convince people to visit Narbonne’s beaches. Enjoy the wonderful Mediterranean as you soak up the sun. What’s best, do this in a beach not overrun by sunbathers and swimmers. Feel like royalty as you lie on the beach with barely anyone around, and let your worries be swept away by the salty wind, tingling water, and warm sand.

DO SOME SHOPPING AT THE HALLES

Dream of shopping for local products at a beautiful place? Head to the Halles market. This covered market is housed in a gorgeous building with giant glass windows and opulent decorations. Don’t let its look fool you, however, the market is where the regular people of the town do their shopping. Buy fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, and anything in between, while contributing to the local economy. The market is wonderful because it offers high-quality products for very reasonable prices.

EXPLORE THE ABBAYE DE FONTFROIDE

Take your time exploring the Fontfroide Abbey, this is not a place you want to rush through. As you walk along the grounds and abbey, you will feel as if you’ve stepped into a time machine back to Medieval times. The abbey itself is a beauty, but it does not overshadow the green landscape that surrounds it.
