ST. TROPEZ
St. Tropez’ reputation precedes it. This Mediterranean town was once a quiet fishing village where the likes of Guy de Maupassant came to find peace and tranquility. This all changed when it was chosen as the setting for Roger Vadim’s “And then God created Woman.” The image of Brigitte Bardot posing around the gorgeous small town placed it on every movie screen in the country, and abroad.Since then, St. Tropez has left behind its former tranquility, and has become one of the favorite playgrounds for the rich and famous. Glamour is now the name of the game, and yachts have largely replaced the fishing boats that once served as the background for Bardot’s beauty. Around town, you will find high-end restaurants, beautiful architecture, and boutiques. Nightlife is now thriving, as exclusive nightclubs will keep you dancing until the night is over. In St. Tropez, you will spend your days at the beach with a cocktail in your hand, and the nights living it up like there is no tomorrow. Of course, if you’re going to St. Tropez, you have to do it in style. Rent a villa close to town, where you can enjoy a luxurious accommodation that will feel like a home away from home. If you’re overwhelmed by the amount of activities available in town, just make sure you don’t miss out on these:
TAKE A STROLL ALONG LA PONCHE QUARTER
La Ponche is the quarter that has kept true to the town’s past. Holding on to the image of a sleepy fishing village, you will not find glamorous shops around here. Take a break from the bustle of the masses, and enjoy a quiet stroll through this beautiful quarter.
VISIT DE MUSÈE DE L’ANNONCIADE
If you’re a fan of 20th century art, then you cannot miss a chance to see this museum. Its collections showcase Post-Impressionist works, as well as Fauvist, Expressionist, and other modern art pieces. The museum is one of the biggest cultural centers in St. Tropez and one of its most visited ones.
SPEND TIME AT THE CITADELLE DE ST. TROPEZ
Once the defense of St. Tropez, the Citadelle still stands over the city with its grandiose presence. This is the place to learn about the history of the town, and about its maritime and naval past. One of the highlights of visiting the Citadelle is the astonishing views that it offers. From the top, you will be able to admire the French Riviera and the beauty of St. Tropez.
ADMIRE THE BOATS ON THE HARBOUR
The harbour was once populated by small fishing boats, but it is now the dock of glamorous yachts. People gather in the harbour to admire these wonderful boats, and see them bobbing up and down as the waves move them.
RELAX AT ESCALET BEACH
Probably the best beach around the area, Escalet Beach will leave you breathless. To get there, you must take a 20 minute walk, but it’s well worth it to see its transparent waters. Peaceful, gorgeous, and pristine, this beach is one of the gems of St. Tropez.
